MEEKER | The Cowboys are heading into the final week of regular season play ranked 26th according to MaxPreps. Meeker is 11-7 coming off of a 2-1 weekend where one game was played at home and the other two were part of a big overnight trip.
Thursday the Little Snake Rattlers struggled from the beginning to get anything going and the Cowboys took an early and big lead that grew as the game went on.
Many of the younger kids were able to see some action including Auggie Halstead, Oliver Holmes, Drew Drake and Finley Deming.
With another 20 point game, Jace Mobley led the Cowboys, Jonathan Fitzgibbons had 12 and Jacob Simonsen had eight. Off the boards Fitzgibbons had 13 rebounds for the total team effort win.
In the Meeker and Gunnison previous matchup the Cowboys won by six, this time around they doubled the margin to twelve 52-40. Gunnison made some runs in the second and fourth quarter, but shut down each time, the Cowboys were able to pull out the win.
Fitzgibbons led the charge with 14 points, while both Mobley and Simonsen each had 10.
For a second time this year, the Cedaredge Bruins proved to be a difficult opponent for the Cowboys. The Bruins are currently ranked ninth in the state in class 3A and are looking to host a regional. Tide at the half and then only three points ahead at the end of the third, the Bruins made a big run in the fourth to take the victory 53-38.
For the third game in a row Fitzgibbons put up double digits, leading the scoring with Simonsen, each having 10 points.
This week there is only one game left in the regular season. Saturday the North Fork Miners come to town, JV begins at 1 p.m.
