The kids always enjoy having their faces painted and those at Meekerpalooza were no exception. On hand with her paints and brushes was Leslie Hackaday of Leslie’s Funny Faces.
The Brad Fitch Tropic Cowboy Band entertained the crowd on Saturday in Ute Park as part of Meekerpalooza. The John Denver tribute band, whose members are mostly from Boulder and Estes Park, kept the audience singing along as they played Denver’s songs throughout their performance.
The weather on Saturday was nearly perfect with a light breeze most of the time keeping the high heat down so folks could sit, talk, eat and listen to music. Every once in a while strong gusts would take over, but they didn’t last long.
At the intersection of Fifth and Main streets on Saturday was the first farmers market of the year. As well as local produce, there were also out-of-town producers taking part in the market, which will be held once a month, with the next event July 23.
A good crowd was still taking part at the flea market late Saturday morning just off of Market Street. The flea market was sponsored by Restored Grace, which specializes in antiques, furniture and home furnishings.
The inaugural ERBM Recreation and Park District Metal Art Competition was held during Meekerpalooza on Saturday, and the top three winners as well as other entries were quite impressive. Kyle Stewart of Rangely came away with top honors for his piece titled “Fly Fishing,” seen far left; Stewart also placed second with his “The Fly” piece, seen right; and Aaron Weston of Meeker placed third with his “Gone Fishing” sculpture, in center. The People’s Choice Award was also awarded to Stewart’s “Fly Fishing” piece. The sculptures are now on display at Meeker Town Park.
Another of the activities in the Kids’ Art Zone at Meekerpalooza was the rock painting booth, sponsored by the MACC. The kids were fun to watch as they would paint a rock a solid color then start using their imaginations to turn out some highly colorful pieces.
Sena Zellers, center, was keeping an eye on things and helping kids stay busy in the Kids’ Art Zone, which was sponsored by the Meeker Arts and Cultural Council (MACC), during Meekerpalooza Saturday.
One of the booths at Meekerpalooza on Saturday featured wood carving, and these cute looking bears were the work of Joe Wanal of Craig, where he owns Rocky Mountain Carvers.
