MHS Art Department has best year yet at Scholastic Art Awards

The Meeker High School Art Department had its best year yet in the Colorado Regional Scholastic Art Awards. Meeker had 28 entries for Meeker High School out of 3,000 statewide entries. This is the most rigorous art contest statewide and nationally and is the equivalent of a state championship in art.

These are the best artworks from the premier programs in the state. Meeker High School had five Gold Keys, one Silver Key and eight Honorable Mentions. Please go to www.coloradoartawards.org for more information about this amazing show.  Only about 15% of the total entries receive any recognition. The Gold and Silver Keys will be displayed in the Denver Art Museum from Feb. 2 until March 7. Honorable Mentions are displayed digitally in the museum.

The Gold Key winners will go on for national adjudication in New York and those winners will be announced in March. This year the Gold Key winners are senior Shaelee Arrison for Drawing and Illustration, junior Tryston Dollins for Drawing and Illustration, sophomore Ella Slaugh in Painting (MHS first ever in painting), sophomore Lilly Newman for Editorial Cartoon and sophomore Eric Petrocco for Printmaking. Freshman Lili Hernandez received a Silver Key in Drawing and Illustration. Honorable Mentions include Shaelee Arrison (Senior, Drawing), Levi Caulfield (Junior, Printmaking), Rachel DiBenedetto (Sophomore, Printmaking), Tryston Dollins (Junior, Drawing), Spencer Gates (Senior, Ceramics) and sophomores Lilly Newman, Addie Knowles and Morgan Keetch for an Expanded Group Project.
