MEEKER I First-year cross country coach Sheri Kehr, qualified three of her runners for the 2A Colorado State Cross County Championships to be held in Aurora this Saturday.
Senior Krissie Harman qualified with a 14th place finish in the regional meet held Saturday last in Delta. Harman ran the course in 23 minutes 43 seconds.
The boys have been led all season by sophomore Jake Boesch and junior Lathrop Hughes. Both qualified for the state championship 5K. Boesch finished fifth in the regional meet with a time of 17:14 and Hughes was the 10th runner to cross the finish line in 17:45.
Senior Sydney Boes, sophomores Bailey Mantle and Willis Begaye and Lindsey Patterson all ran in the district meet but did not qualify for the state meet.
“As a first time coach at Meeker High School, I feel extremely privileged to work with these athletes,” coach Kehr said. “With every practice these kids gave 100 percent effort and at every meet they exceeded their own personal records and goals. I was impressed with their tenacity and willpower. They dug deep. They are students that will give back to not only their school and sport but to their community. That says a lot.”
