MEEKER | Cowboy softball is gearing up for another year. “We have high hopes for this group of girls and are all working towards returning to the state tournament,” commented head coach Kendal Bergman.
There are three returning seniors leading the team: Brea Garcia from Meeker and Dylan Herndon and Reagan Hafey from Craig.
“Brea and Dylan have played all four years of high school with the Meeker program and Reagan is competing in her second year,” said Bergman. “Dylan will continue to be a leader for the team in the outfield and brings a great bat up to the plate. Both Brea and Reagan are stand out pitchers who will give everything they have out in the circle. In addition to their note-worthy pitching skills, they are strong defenders in the infield and have proven to be consistent and powerful hitters. We have great seniors leading a great team!”
Assisting Bergman this year is coach Erik Brown and Crandal Mergelman, Tom Knowles and Anne Baker.
“My main goals for this season are starting off stronger in preseason and returning to the state tournament to make our stand,” said Bergman. ”We will continue to work hard and grow together as a team to make sure our goals are met. This specific group has tons of experience amongst them which will help us reach new heights this year.”
The Cowboys open up with JV first this Thursday with a double header in Grand Junction and varsity sees their first action at home against Palisade on Saturday, games beginning at 11 a.m.
