MHS student artwork earns Scholastic awards

Special to the HT

MEEKER |  Meeker High School had another fantastic year at the Colorado Regional Scholastic Awards. The MHS Art program had six Gold Key recipients, three Silver Key award winners and eight Honorable Mention awards. First time awards for MHS students this year included sophomore Brooklynn Kirkpatrick winning the first Gold Key in MHS history in sculpture and sophomore Joshua Quinn receiving the prestigious Jurors Award, also a first in program history.

Nearly 5,000 of the best works from Colorado’s premier art programs and students are submitted each year. Only a small fraction get into the show. Meeker High School students continue to show their amazing talents and abilities at the highest level of art competition. The Gold Key winning work is currently being adjudicated in New York City and students will find out at the end of March if they have qualified for the national level.

“We had our best year yet. I am so incredibly proud of how our art students continue to strive for excellence in expressing themselves in a wide diversity of themes and mediums,” said MHS art teacher Ben Quinn. “We have a tremendous amount of support for our program and our students from our parents, the community, administration and the school board. We are truly blessed as we can focus on our students and the work they do.” The artwork is being displayed at the 40 West Gallery in Lakewood and the Denver Art Museum in Denver until March.
