MEEKER | The Meeker track team is winding down the season as it wraps up the two-day league meet in Grand Junction.
“I thought the kids did an outstanding job rising to the occasion and competing,” commented head coach Hallie Blunt.
Lots of placers and beginning with the champions three of the girls’ relays took top honors, starting with the 4×800 meter relay of Ellie Hossack, Jayde Turner, Braydin Raley and Taylor Garcia, the 4×200 meter relay of Hossack, Adi Selle, Garcia and Ainsley Selle, and 4×100 meter relay of Hossack, Turner, Garcia and Raley.
“Our 4×200 was just 0.2 seconds from a school record and all three of the championship teams are in the top 10 in the state,” said Blunt.
Individual champions came from boys side where Judd Harvey finished first in shot put and Sam Hightower took home gold in pole vault. Hightower attempted a 13 foot 5 inch jump that would have broken the school record and he just barely missed it. Harvey is currently second in the state and Hightower is third. Hightower also placed in the triple jump and high jump and Harvey in discus.
The girls 4×400 meter relay placed third and with Rylee Sullivan taking fourth in high jump and Reese Clatterbaugh second in triple jump the girls placed fourth in team standings.
Tristin Rollins took fourth in the long jump and combined with points earned from Hightower and Harvey the boys placed fifth as a team.
This week is the final meet before scores have to be tallied and the state events are finalized. The team will compete in Parachute on Saturday.
