MEEKER I Varsity opened the weekend with a dual in Cedaredge, it was supposed to be a tri dual, but due to weather Buena Vista was unable to attend.
Each team had two open weights, the Cowboys lost 45-30, but Cedaredge did some shuffling to create one of the open weights.
Winning their matches were Trae Kennedy, Cade Blunt, Judd Harvey and for JV Hayden Shults,
“Cedaredge is a tough team, but the boys wrestled well,” commented assistant coach Tyrell Turner.
At the Delta Panther Invitational at 120 pounds Kennedy took third, Ty Goedert (132) took second and Clay Crawford placed fourth, Abe Maupin (138)placed fourth, Trevor Keys (152) placed sixth, Connor Blunt (160) won the tournament and received outstanding wrestler of the tournament, also at 160 pounds Trinden Powell placed fourth, at 170 pounds Kelton Turner won the bracket and Cade took second, Brendan Clatterbaugh (182) took second, at 220 Harvey took first and Shults placed fourth, and at HWT Tanner Musser won his bracket. As a team the Cowboys took third with 177 points, Cedaredge took first with 208 points and Moffat County second with 190 points.
Kelton Turner won the 170 pound bracket. Heavyweight Tanner Musser won his bracket. Harvey took first place at 220.
The teams now look forward to the Warrior in Grand Junction for the varsity and the JV will be traveling to Fruita. Both of these tournaments are Friday and Saturday. The Cowboys are only allowed to take 14 boys to the Warrior and the rest of the team will travel to Fruita. The Warrior begins at 10 am at Grand Junction Central High School on Friday and the JV tournament begins at 4:30 pm at Fruita High School.
