MEEKER I The results are in for the Big Bull and Buck Contest at Barone Middle School. Students who hunted this year brought in their deer and elk antlers to be measured and compared. Winners received $25 and a Strawberry Creek Outfitter hat and T-shirt.
Participants in the elk competition included Noah Overton, Sheridan Harvey and Tyler Ilgen. Both Sheridan and Ilgen harvested bulls measuring 320-3/8.
In the buck category, Kash Atwood, Bradi Bland, Casey Turner and Kasey Rosendahl all brought in bucks. Bradi Bland’s buck scored an impressive 185-2/8, Casey Turner’s 163 and Kasey Resendahl’s was 148-2/8. The only negative side of these great trophies is the great challenge for future hunts.
The success of these youth hunters is a great advertisement for the area. Encouragement from the school and Strawberry Creek Outfitters, along with the people involved in taking these kids hunting helps maintain an important tradition in the White River Valley.
