Naomi F. Parkes

Naomi was a former resident of Meeker and Craig, Colorado. Naomi was one of two children born to Fred A. Carroll and Renora A. Carroll. She attended Meeker High School, (graduating in 11 years), and went on to Parks School of Business in Denver, Colorado, to further her education.

On Nov. 28, 1948, she was married to Thomas E. Parkes and from that union, two children were born.

She and her husband ranched on Flag Creek, out of Meeker, Colorado, and her early work experience included working at the Meeker Memorial Hospital as a nurse’s aide (1952-1954), executive secretary to Superintendent of the Meeker Public Schools, Meeker, Colorado (1956-1961). After moving to Craig, Colorado, she worked for Floyd M. Pleasants Insurance Company as secretary and receptionist, (1961-1968). Tom and Naomi bought American Auto Parts store in Craig, Colorado, (Tom’s Auto Parts & Supply, Inc), 1968-1979, which they owned and operated. In 1975 they bought and operated Four Seasons Auto Parts and Supply Inc, in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, selling the business in 1985 and retiring. The couple then “wintered” in Sun Lakes, Arizona, which eventually they made their permanent residence, and where she passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 12, 2022, at age 90.

Naomi is survived by her two children — Thomas L. Parkes and daughter- in-law Joanne of Nathrop, Colorado; Katherine L. Wynkoop and son-in-law Burkie of Battlement Mesa, Colorado; four granddaughters: Melanie Jensen and husband Jeffery of Grand Junction, Colorado; Myndie Preble and husband Travis of Midland, Texas; Jennifer Snyder and husband Craig of Lewiston, Michigan; and Lindsey Parkes and husband Brendan Mance of Gladwyne, Pennsylvania; 12 great-grandchildren: Aerianna Preble-Wrich and husband Levi, Logan Jensen and wife Elyse, Madisen Jensen, Chloe Preble, Coen Jensen, Kailee Snyder, Kelsen Snyder, Kaliana Snyder, Koa Snyder, Ellie Mance, Cora Mance and Matthew Mance.

Interment will be at Highland Cemetery in Meeker with graveside services pending at this time.
