RANGELY | The Rangely Panther cross country team is starting to hit mid-season form, competing at the Grand Junction Tiger Invitational this past weekend. The young team ran a fast and competitive course at Connected Lakes State Park and many runners took away new personal best times for 5K.
The boys’ team was led by James Talbot, who crossed the line in third place with a time of 16:45. Joseph Valdez crossed next for the Panthers in 19:37 and was followed shortly after by Logan Peterson in 20:39. Justin Allred ran 21:03, Lincoln Harris 21:37, Kacey Allred 22:29, Gage Nielsen 25:32, and Matthew Morgan 25:33.
Taya Wren was the first lady Panther across the line in the girls’ race, taking sixth place overall and running an impressive 20:27. Courtney Castro cut over four minutes off of her previous best time, running 27:46.
The Panthers will compete next at the Eagle Valley Cross Country Invitational at the Siena Valley Club on Saturday, Sept. 16.
