New students attend CNCC-Rangely classes

RANGELY — The official opening of the CNCC fall semester began Thursday and Friday of last week with the welcoming of all new students to the CNCC-Rangely campus.
As students began to check in Thursday afternoon, the Student Orientation Advising and Registration (SOAR) events were in full swing.
Following an orientation and welcome, the two days were packed with activities, including student information sessions, financial aid workshops and placement testing, which is mandatory for all new students registering at CNCC. The results of the testing assist academic advisors in selecting classes that will ensure student success. Friday morning was devoted to students meeting with their academic advisors and finally registering for classes.
As the first day of classes began Monday, Aug. 25, CNCC staff and faculty were busily preparing for the upcoming semester.
President John Boyd was excited when asked about the first day of classes. “We’ve got a great group of kids coming in,” Boyd said. “Enrollment is up and the semester looks like it’s really heading for a very promising year to come.”
The new assistant director of residence life, John Bottelberghe, is getting the excitement going by introducing “Kick off Week” for the beginning of the semester. It began with a pep rally-style introduction to housing, sports and other activities on campus.
This will be followed throughout the week with a game night in the Bronco, a Student Senate-sponsored kara-oke night, a CNCC barbecue at the lake, a night at the movies in Vernal, paintball games by the climbing gym and to wrap up the week — a trip to Dinosaur National Monument. All activities will conclude with Septemberfest activities downtown.
There is still time to register as classes get under way. The last day to register for a semester-length class was Wednesday, Aug. 27, while the add/drop period ends Wednesday, Sept. 10.
