Johnson and Wales University names Curto to Dean’s List
MEEKER — Johnson and Wales University student Shawna Curto of Meeker, who is pursuing an associate degree in baking and pastry arts from the College of Culinary Arts at the Charlotte, N.C., campus, has been named to the dean’s list for the 2007 winter term. To receive dean’s list commendation, students must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.40 or above.

Farm Days takes place Friday
MEEKER — FFA Farm Days will be on the Meeker Elementary School grounds Friday, May 9 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The community is invited to learn more about agriculture in the community. There will be many different ranch animals on display. The FFA Ag students will host the event and they have prepared packets and presentations for visitor information. Additionally, there will be presenters from the Soil Conservation District and the Farm Service agency. Weed control and prevention will be the focus this year.

Pest district meets Thursday
RBC — Lower White River Pest Control District meeting, Water Conservancy Building, Thursday, May 15, 7 p.m. Information contact Chad Filener (970) 574-7159.

Breast cancer fund raiser being planned
RANGELY — An October fund raiser to benefit breast cancer research is in the planning stage. There will be a walk along the bike path to the lake in Rangely. The planning committee hopes to have a barbecue, auction and concert. Please watch for further information. For more information, call Lynda Cady at (970) 675-8720.

Make history by directing the Range Call pageant
MEEKER — The Range Call committee is looking for a volunteer pageant director. The pageant is an annual event, held during the Range Call Fourth of July Celebration, portraying Meeker’s history. The director will coordinate the event and delegate tasks to other volunteers. The pageant director will sit on the Range Call committee and is requested to attend monthly meetings. The position requires some planning throughout the year but most work will be done in June and July each year. The next Range Call meeting will be May 28 at the fairgrounds kitchen; everyone is welcome. Elks host BBQ for area youth
RANGELY – Rangely Elks lodge will be having a free youth barbecue at Elks Park Saturday, May 10 starting at noon. This is in honor of Youth Week 2008, May 4-May 10.

In last week’s edition of the Herald Times, Reese Pertile was incorrectly identified as Keyla Trujillo in a Meeker Elementary School photo. See the corrected photo on page 6A. We regret the error.

Bob Tucker Memorial Saturday
MEEKER — Because of last week’s snow storm the first annual Coach Bob Tucker Memorial golf tournament was postponed last Saturday and will be played this Saturday, May 9 at the Meeker Golf Course. Call the Meeker Golf Course at 878-5642 for more information on the four-person scramble, which starts at 9:30 a.m.
