Herald Day is here again!
Hopefully with all the pages in the right places this week!
The return of smoke in the air from wildfires in neighboring Utah and in Garfield County triggered some anxiety this week, snapping many of us right back to last year’s Lee and Elk fires and their accompanying stress.
Rio Blanco County and BLM lands are currently in Stage 1 fire restrictions (as of press time), the White River National Forest goes into Stage 2 restrictions tomorrow, and we’re heading into another hot, dry week and people wanting to play with fireworks and have campfires because we like to be entertained and we like our traditions. Maybe we could just skip those risky activities this year, for everyone’s benefit? Are we, as a society, even capable of that kind of altruism? That’s an existential question for us to ponder as we head into America’s 250th birthday.
As always, thank you for supporting this community institution. Your advertising, subscriptions and donations to The Lyttle Project continue to make local news coverage possible week after week.
