Your weekly news roundup: Nov. 16, 2023

Hey, hi, hello!

I did not send out a roundup last week, just the online edition. In return, I got a good deal of feedback that the news is better with some commentary, so instead of TWO emails (because really, who needs more emails? #noone) we’re going back to the O.G.

(The edition will always be linked right below the introductory paragraph if you’d like to get straight to the news!)

This was another a reminder that you cannot please everyone. Thanks for bearing with me while I re-learn that important life lesson for the 11,000th time. Maybe it will finally stick. 😭😭

And now, without further ado about nothing, here’s your weekly news roundup for Nov. 16, made possible by our Community Supporters! 💜

This week’s front page.

Quick hits.

– Seussical Jr. the Musical premieres TONIGHT! Come support our young thespians with your undivided attention, applause, and SILENCED CELL PHONES. 😉 Tickets are $5 at the door and go to the nonprofit Meeker Arts & Cultural Council.

– Local history buffs met over the weekend to discuss the story of the Nuche (Ute) people and their history in the area.

– Meeker Sportsmans Club will host their annual turkey shoot this Saturday (… no, it’s not shooting turkeys. You WIN a frozen turkey!) Details in Community Happenings!

– Here’s our most recent BOCC meeting report, the Town of Meeker report detailing a proposed development near the hospital, and even more (if you can believe it) on the county’s 2024 budget. #wegotomeetingssoyoudonothaveto

– From this week’s Rio Happenings: “A found wallet that included a mini spoon was turned into a Sheriff Deputy. The owner was located and was given back the wallet, minus the mini spoon that was used for “dieting.”

Save the Herald update

We know this community is special, but here’s another reminder! Your efforts to Save the Herald have caught national and international attention after nearly $40,000 was raised in just two weeks. We have received emails from as far away as Ireland!

Here’s a couple stories about it:

What happened is absolutely UNPRECEDENTED, and we know it has nothing to do with us. It’s all because of you, the community.

Thank you for keeping history alive. 🖤🗞🖤

On that note, go read this week’s edition, and have a great Thursday!
