MEEKER | The Ninth Judicial District Nominating Commission will meet via Webex on Dec. 7, 2022, to interview and select nominees for appointment by the governor to the offices of county judge and associate county judge for Rio Blanco County. The vacancies will be created by the death of the Honorable Joe Fennessy. The vacancies occurred on Nov. 11, 2022.
To be eligible, the applicant must be a qualified elector of Rio Blanco County at the time of investiture and have graduated high school or attained the equivalent of a high school education as indicated by the Department of Education, based upon the record made on the General Education Development test. Pursuant to C.R.S. 13-6-209, the associate county judge shall maintain his or her official residence in Rio Blanco County and court chambers in the city of Rangely. The county judge must also reside in Rio Blanco County and shall maintain court chambers in Meeker. The annual salary for each of these positions is $35,181, and each position is a 20% position. The initial term of office of a county judge is a provisional term of two years; thereafter, the incumbent county judge, if approved by the voters, has a term of four years.

The completed application must be emailed to the address listed in the instructions below no later than 4 p.m. on Nov. 30, 2022. Late applications will not be considered. Applicants must indicate whether they intend to apply for one or both vacancies. Any person wishing to suggest a candidate to fill either of these vacancies may do so by letter to be submitted to any member of the nominating commission, with a copy to the ex officio chair, no later than 4 p.m. on Nov. 28, 2022.
The members of the nominating commission for the 9th Judicial District are: Lauren Maytin and Blanca O’Leary, both of Aspen; Sheryl Barto and Samuel Crary, both of Carbondale; Angela Strode of Rifle; and Rachel Gates of Meeker.
