Every pitcher, no matter what level of play they participate in, dreams of completing a no-hitter. The dream has come true twice for Rangely’s sophomore ace, Marcos Quintana. Quintana threw his first no-hitter against Grand Valley High School in Rangely on April 15, 2023. In the game, Quintana only faced three hitters over the minimum. In the 18 batters faced in the game, Quintana walked three and struck out eight. He did so with only 76 total pitches. This was the first no-hitter for a Rangely Panther in over 17 years (as far back as traceable stats exist) and was the first-ever for Quintana as a pitcher.
Like lightning striking twice in the same spot, pitching a back-to-back no-hitter is almost as non-existent. With his first no-hitter in his back pocket, Quintana took the mound again against the Sanford Mustangs. Quintana appeared to be going after the first perfect game of his high school career all the way into the fourth inning. Unfortunately, the Panther defense committed two errors in the inning allowing the Mustangs to reach base and score one run, but Quintana never gave up a hit in the game. Quintana’s stat line for the game is four innings pitched, one walk, and nine strikeouts.
Marcos Quintana will forever have his name in the Rangely High School Baseball record book with his two no-hitters that he has thrown so far in the 2023 season. Quintana currently holds a 3-1 overall record with his other win coming in a four-hit bid against the Dove Creek Bulldogs.
