Longtime Meeker area resident Alvan Nye, 97, passed away on Aug. 29, 2022. Alvan and his twin brother Alva were born on Feb. 28, 1925, in Wichita Falls, Texas, during a move by the family from Texas to the La Junta, Colorado, area. Alvan grew up in southeast Colorado.
Alvan spent his working life ranching in the Aspen, Silt and Meeker areas, finally retiring at the age of 80.
On Dec. 6, 1959, Alvan and Eunice Bandstra were united in marriage in Aspen. They remained married for 52 years until Eunice’s passing on July 17, 2012. They had three children: Keith, Tena and Kevin. The Nye family moved to Meeker in 1972 where Alvan remained for the rest of his life.
Alvan was a cheerful, friendly, honest and gentle man who loved ranching, baseball, animals and his family. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Alvan was preceded in death by his parents Able and Roby Nye, his brothers Oscar, Lawrence, Lauren and Alva and his sisters Ora, Nora and Margaret. Alvan is survived by his two sons Keith (Valerie) Nye of San Manuel, Arizona, and Kevin (Jan) Nye of Meeker and his daughter Tena (Mike) Theos of Meeker. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend its appreciation to the Pioneers Medical Center and Walbridge Wing for taking such wonderful care of Alvan for the past three years. The family requests that any donations in his name go to the Walbridge Wing.
