Bruce “Sonny” Mobley, 89, of Meeker, passed away Jan. 2, 2013, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction.
He was born Jan. 1, 1924, in Rio Blanco County to Chester and Helena Mobley. Bruce left his senior year of high school to serve his country and enlisted in the army. During World War II, he was assigned to the 28th Airborne Special Force Tank Battalion where he fought in the Pacific Theater from Aug. 4, 1943, through Feb. 23, 1946, and was brought home due to the death of his brother. After he returned home, he met the love of his life, Mary Yeakel. They were married July 28, 1949, at the Christian Church in Grand Junction. Bruce’s passion was his ranch; he and Mary loved caring for their sheep.
Bruce leaves behind his wife, Mary; daughters, Joline (Peter) Loostrom, Marcia (Curtis) Mechura, Cindy (Brian) Kerkstra and Crystal (James) Roberts; grandchildren Joel, Danielle, Sidney, Jenni, Angeline, Serena and Benjamin; and great-grandchildren Grace, Elektra, Jacob and Joel.
A viewing is planned for Friday, Jan. 11, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m.; both at the Methodist Church in Meeker. Interment and military honors will follow immediately at Highland Cemetery in Meeker.
