Nov. 30, 1940 ~ Jan. 27, 2022

David Eugene Steffen was born on Nov. 30, 1940, to Kenneth Steffen and Ruby Steffen in Oak Creek, Colorado. He was raised in Oak Creek and Kremmling, Colorado, and went to high school in Kremmling. In 1962, David met Enid Eliasen while working in Steamboat Springs, where they were married on June 9, 1962. They made their way back to Meeker in 1968, where they raised their three children. David’s working life was the tale of two careers and two opportunities for the family. He worked for many years for David Smith Ranches, where they were able to raise a family surrounded by the world’s biggest playground and a menagerie of animals. While he worked irrigating and feeding cattle, the kids helped, thinking they were playing. In 1980, they purchased The Bakery, which they ran for 30 years. The Bakery provided employment and learning opportunities for a couple of generations. More than one grandchild has commented that they learned their kitchen skills from watching grandpa. While he didn’t get to play as much as he wanted while running The Bakery he enjoyed fishing, throwing a ball with the kids and grandkids and woodworking. David’s final year was spent in the Walbridge Wing, where he brightened the lives of many and he enjoyed all of the activities offered. He is survived by his three children: Mike Steffen, Theresa Steffen and Lisa (Roger) Hanna; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; brother Richard (Maria) Steffen along with numerous nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his wife, Enid Steffen, and by his parents. David passed away in Walbridge Wing on Jan. 27 with family at his side. A celebration of his life will be held this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in David’s memory to Pioneers Medical Foundation, American Cancer Society or St. Jude’s.
