Obituary – Denise ‘Dee’ Camron Cox

April 29, 1961 ~ March 6, 2024

Denise “Dee” Camron Cox, 62, passed away March 6, 2024, at St. Mary’s Regional Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Dee was born April 29, 1961, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She was a member of the swim team at Coral Springs High School in Coral Springs, Florida, where she earned a varsity letter. After graduation, she studied early childhood special education at St. Thomas University in Miami. Dee met the love of her life, Steven “Steve” Edmund Cox, in 1989, and the two were married Aug. 31, 1991. They were lovingly committed for the rest of their lives.

Dee and Steve moved from Florida to the Denver metro area in 1994. Dee worked in childcare as an au pair and later as a support specialist for the developmentally disabled, a job she enjoyed for its reward in helping adults with Down syndrome.

They relocated to Meeker, Colorado, in early 2007, where Dee served as director of tourism for the Meeker Chamber of Commerce from 2007 to 2011. Dee and Steve cherished the Meeker community and enjoyed participating in events as both employees and volunteers. The couple spent many happy times dancing to the tune of bagpipes on a friend’s porch, celebrating the Fourth of July at the rodeo, and attending concerts. They embraced life in their cabin home in the small mountain town, and they enjoyed exploring the mountains together, camping, fishing, four-wheeling, and snowmobiling. Dee and Steve adored their dogs, whom they called their “babies.” Throughout their 32-year marriage, they cared for several generations and breeds of dogs.

Dee’s spunk, zeal for life, and tenacity in loving others will be remembered and missed by all who knew her.

Dee is survived by her husband, Steve, who passed away later in the year on Oct. 13, 2024. Other survivors include her stepson, Andrew Pinder of Carrollton, Georgia; mother-in-law, Loretta Durden of Melbourne, Florida; brothers-in-law, Rick Cox (Ellen) of Melbourne, Jim Cox of Melbourne, and Mark Cox of Blairsville, Georgia; step-granddaughter, Lexi Thurman (Matthew) of Carrollton; one great-granddaughter; many nieces and nephews; bonus family, Nick and Katie Wilson of Naples, Florida; and many beloved friends.

A joint memorial service for Dee and Steve is planned for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Masonic Lodge in Meeker, 364 7th St. All are welcome.
