Obituary – Ercilia Mary ‘Archie’ Sisneros

May. 16, 1946 ~ Nov. 20, 2025

Ercilia Mary Sisneros, or “Archie,” died Nov. 20, 2025, surrounded by the comfort of her home in Rangely, just as she had wished. She was born May 16, 1946, in El Rito, New Mexico.

She was the daughter of Ignacio and Rufinita (Vigil) Chavez.

On Aug. 13, 1962, she married her childhood sweetheart Margarito Sisneros Jr. at San Juan Nepomun Catholic Church in El Rito. The couple lived in the San Luis Valley area and later moved to Morrill, Nebraska. Archie stayed home and took care of the family. She later worked as a CNA, a retail clerk and in housekeeping at the local hospital in Morrill. In 1978, the family moved to Rangely, Colorado, where Archie worked at a bakery shop, Colorado Northwestern Community College, and a few other places in town.

She eventually found her passion and second home at Rangely District Hospital where she stayed for 35 years. She dedicated herself to her job from sunup to sundown and on all holidays so that her employees were able to spend time with their families. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. Her only day of rest was Sunday, when she would get up and go to church. Once she was home, she was on her phone calling everyone to tell them breakfast was ready. Needless to say, she had a full house on that day with her family. Archie enjoyed her word search, watching the game show channel, and playing different card games, but her favorite game was SORRY, played the “Archie” way.

Survivors include her children, Jelene and Andy Mann of Rangely; Brian and Sandra Sisneros of Fruita; Karen and David Cassavaugh of Grand Junction; and Brenda and Jim Sherman of Carlsbad, New Mexico.

She is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Quinton, Cameron, Roshelle, Shandra, Miranda, Eric, Nadine, Emily, Braylee, Breanna and Jimmie; 16 great-grandchildren: Calvin, Triton, Kelbi, Decklin, Carter, Cambri, Garrick, Layla, Braydin, Nina, Klayton, Whitney, Clarabelle, Zofia, Mia and Neveah; and sisters Rose Ortega and Evelyn (Farmer) Lopez, and brothers Isaac (Jolene) and Gilbert Chavez.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Margarito Sisneros Jr.; two sons, William “Bill” and Norman Sisneros; her parents; and her sister, Merlinda Sandoval.

Services are pending at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Rangely.
