Obituary: Gary Eugene Ivie

Sept. 9, 1950 ~ Nov. 13, 2021

Gary Eugene Ivie, age 71, of Grand Junction, went to be with Jesus on Nov. 13, 2021 at St. Mary’s in Grand Junction after a short illness.

Born Sept. 9, 1950, in Delta to Jonny and Alice (Brandt) Lovato.

Jonny passed away when Gary was very young. The only father Gary ever knew was Daryl Ivie.

Gary graduated from Meeker High School in 1969. Shortly after high school he married Sharon Valentine, and they had a daughter, Heather.

He would later marry the love of his life, Linda Keeper, in 1980. They were married for 41 years. They had two children, Amanda and Travis.

Gary grew up on a ranch in Meeker where he helped raise sheep, then cattle. During high school he played basketball, sang in the choir and participated in FFA. After high school he drove a truck, then worked for Prudential, and before retiring he delivered oxygen for G&G Medical. He was an amazing big brother, husband, father, grandpa, uncle and friend who loved spending time with his family and never missed an opportunity to do so. Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and being outdoors in general. He loved watching a good Broncos game. Gary was very outgoing and never met a stranger. He loved sharing a good joke to put a smile on the faces of those around him and he somehow managed to earn the nickname Uncle Ornery. He would help anyone he could in any way he could. He attended Clifton Christian Church where he enjoyed worshiping and fellowship. He is truly missed by many.

Gary is survived by his mother Alice Ivie, wife Linda, daughters Heather (Matt) Weinischke of Windsor, Colorado, Amanda (Cliff) Sparks of Grand Junction, grandchildren Kourtni (Brent) Dearborn, Sierra, Dalton, Addison, Emerson, Archer, and Macie Weinischke, Emily and Reagan Sparks. Great grandchildren Carson, Lincoln, Grayson, Annistyn, and one on the way Dearborn. Siblings Terry (Gala) Ivie, Donald (Cher) Ivie, Cheryl (Steven) Foster, Holly Ivie. Gary also has numerous nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son Travis and father Daryl.

A celebration of life will be held November 27,  2021 at 11 a.m. at Clifton Christian Church, 3241 F ¼ RD 81520.

Services have been entrusted to Brown’s Cremation and Funeral Services.
