1948-2025
Gary Stewart passed away recently in Meeker, Colorado at the age of 76 following an ongoing illness, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Gary was born in Casper, Wyoming and was raised in Meeker where he lived for the majority of his life. In high school, Gary excelled in football and track, and was a three-time state tournament wrestler with a state championship in 1968 for the Meeker Cowboys. Gary proudly served his country in the Vietnam War as a U.S. Marine. After returning home, he married the love of his life, Linda, and became a proud father to his three children Nicole, Grant, and Samantha. Gary especially enjoyed supporting his children’s accomplishments in sports and activities including 4-H. He was delighted in becoming a grandfather several times over, and never passed up an opportunity to hold a baby or tease a toddler. Gary could often be found visiting with his mother and mother-in-law, supporting them as they advanced in years.
Gary spent his free time tending to the horse ranch shared with his wife, photographing wild horses, cheering on the Meeker Cowboys across all sports, and reading western novels. He was also an avid football fan who enjoyed cheering on the Denver Broncos and delighted in supporting his young nieces, nephews, and community members in their athletic endeavors.
Gary is survived by his wife, Linda; his three children Nicole, Grant (Megan), and Sam (Desmond); his grandchildren Stella, Lexi, Max, Gavin, Peyton, Zoey, Mason, and Hudson; and siblings Reba (Bob), Ted (Gayle), Frank (Sheila), Bill (Voni), Jeannie, and Jim (Cynthia). Gary was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Nellie; siblings Albert, Vern, and Tom; and parents-in-law Cyril and Florence.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Pioneers Medical Center in Meeker for their care and compassion in Gary’s final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that any gifts be made in Gary’s name to the following causes that were important to him: Piceance Mustangs (piceancemustangs.org), feeding children through UNICEF.org or your local food bank, or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA.org).
