Obituary: Gregory Blane Goddard

May 14, 1962 ~ March 31, 2023

Gregory Blane Goddard, second son of Gordon and Phyllis Goddard, husband of Madonna, father to Zachery and Wesley and Best Grandpa Ever to Baxter, passed away unexpectedly on March 31, 2023.

Greg was born on May 14, 1962, in Rangely and spent his entire life there.

After graduating from Rangely High School in 1980, he went right to work in the oilfields. He worked with Little Rocky Construction and Bill Burgett on cable tool rigs and Hayes Petroleum as well as multiple workover and drilling rigs that were abundant in the area during this time.

In 1980, his father started their family business, Gordon Goddard Construction. At the time of his passing, he had worked with three generations of his family in this business and was eagerly looking forward to sharing his passion with his grandson Baxter in the future.

Greg was known for his excellent heavy equipment operating skills and took pride in his exceptional work as his father had taught him to do. He had outstanding mechanical skills, rebuilding engines starting at 16 years of age. He was able to make all the repairs on the heavy equipment for the company as well.

Greg met his wife, Madonna, in 1980 and they continued to live in Rangely. Their first son Zachery was born in 1987 and in 1996, their second son Wesley completed their family.

Greg centered his life around his family. He enjoyed going hunting, fishing, picnicking and doing all things outdoors with them. It wasn’t until 2017 when Baxter was born that he realized how joyful life as a grandpa could be. The bond between “Little B” and Greg was unbreakable. The joy in both of their eyes was always apparent when they were together, whether they were wrestling in the living room or “working” on the job, the two were almost inseparable. Greg was excited at the prospect of having his grandson follow in his footsteps and carry on the family business.

Greg will be missed by his wife Madonna and son Wesley of Rangely; grandson Baxter of Rangely and Hayden, his brothers Toby (Julie), Colby (Jennifer) and Gordy as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Phyllis, and his son Zachery.

Services will be held in Rangely at the First Baptist Church on Saturday, April 22, at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up at the Bank of the San Juans.
