Jerry Wayne Purcell
July 13, 1944~Sept. 20, 2017
Jerry Wayne Purcell, 73, went home to be with our Lord on Sept. 20, 2017, following a battle with cancer.
He was born on July 13, 1944, in Leadville, Colo., to Richard and Oka Purcell. He was the youngest of four children. Jerry was a veteran of the United States Navy as well as the United States Air Force. He served as Tech Sergeant during the Vietnam War. He served our country in the military for 16 years.
After his military service, Jerry owned and operated his welding and construction business for 30 years. Jerry spent his life enjoying jeeping, camping and hunting. There was no place he’d rather be than in the mountains. Jerry rarely had a serious moment. He was a consummate jokester to all who knew him. He was dedicated to his family. He was worked hard and played just as hard, getting the most out of life.
Jerry is survived by his wife of more than 52 years, Linda Purcell of Meeker, Colo., his son Luke (Annie) Purcell of Meeker, Colo., his daughter Danette (Gary) Butterbaugh of Grand Junction, Colo., his brother Jim (Shirley) Purcell of Meeker, Colo., and his sister Patsy Porter of Stratford, Texas, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Military honors service will be held on Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado, 2830 Riverside Parkway, Grand Junction, Colo., 81501.
Services have been entrusted to Brown’s Cremation and Funeral Services.
