Lee Light, 92, of Meeker, Colorado, died at Pioneers Walbridge Wing in Meeker on April 25, 2023. She was born in Oakland, California, on March 21, 1931, to Joseph and Kathleen Banning Daly. She was raised in Walnut Creek, where she graduated from Acalanes High School in 1949.
After years of living in the East Bay Area, she moved to Eureka where she met and married Roy Light in 1973. She opened a sewing business in Eureka.
She followed her husband to eastern California in 1985, where they lived in Chester and she returned to school, later graduating from Feather River College in 1987 with an Associate of Science degree. Three years later, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in journalism from the University of Nevada. They lived in Loyalton, California, from 1989 to 2008. She was a reporter for the Mountain Messenger from 1991 till 2008, after taking a year hiatus to work for the Ely Daily Times in Ely, Nevada. When she returned to Loyalton and The Mountain Messenger, she opened Sew-Write Enterprises and later became an EMT for Sierra Valley District Hospital.
Lee and Roy moved to Meeker, Colorado, in 2008, where she owned a successful sewing business. She was an accomplished seamstress. She liked doing all kinds of needle arts especially knitting and making Victorian clothing. She also enjoyed photography and gardening.
She is survived by her two daughters, Chrystene Machele Sackett and Linda Lucille Divine of Meeker; two step-children, Norma Husebye of Bonney Lake, Washington, and James Light of Maple Park, Illinois; two grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and 8 step-great-grandchildren. Private oceanside services were held in May. A celebration of life will be held at White River Methodist Church in Meeker, on Oct. 7, 2023, at 2 p.m.
