Merlyn J. (Mert) Buckmaster Denny
June 7, 1934 ~ Feb. 2, 2019
Merlyn J. Buckmaster Denny went by many names, Momma, Mom, Ma, Grandma Denny/Buckmaster, The Great Denny, Gram, Sis, Aunt Mert and friend. Her kind heart, sense of humor and open-door policy made so many people feel welcome and like family.
Merlyn was born June 7, 1934 to Harry and Mary (Hoback) Denny in Worland, Wyo. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter (Sharon), both her parents, two of her brothers (David and Delmar Denny) and the love of her life, her husband Willard D. (Bill) Buckmaster. She is survived by her brother James Denny, sister-in-law Norma Denny, four daughters Susan (Norm) Parmley, Leslie (Bernie) Rice, Lynnette Stewart and Dianna/Dani (David) Bull, 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren all who adored her. She also had numerous nieces, nephews, lifelong, and special friends who will morn her passing. She spent many years raising her family in Rangely, Colo., where she passed away on Feb. 2, 2019, at the age of 84.
She was a school teacher, bookkeeper, real estate agent and business owner during her career days and retired to the desert of Arizona. Merlyn loved her family above all. She enjoyed reading, writing, playing cards, drinking coffee, travel, being silly and a good laugh. She wasn’t perfect as there has been evidence of cheating at cards noted and she wasn’t above pulling a prank or two, some lasting for years. The stories of her antics were legendary.
As per her wishes, no funeral will be held. Instead a celebration of life will be held later in the year, in a location special to her, Bill, and the family. The world is a much sadder place without her here with us.
