March 24, 1951 ~ Aug. 7, 2023

“Sometimes your heart needs more time to accept what your mind already knows.” It has taken time to write these words because our hearts weren’t ready. Paulette Ann Comstock (Wade) died peacefully on Aug. 7, 2023, with loved ones by her side at Pikes Peak Hospice in Colorado Springs, Colorado, after a valiant battle with cancer.
Paulette was born on March 24, 1951, in Warren, Rhode Island. She was the tiny twin, weighing only 30 ozs., while her 7-minute older brother weighed 5 pounds. Her loving parents, Donald and Barbara Wade, shared many memories of raising these two, including the time they opened an entire carton of Oreos, licking out the cream and throwing away the cookie. Paulette graduated from Rangely High School in 1969 and attended Colorado Northwestern Community College. She worked as a nurse’s aide (a job she loved), a bartender (where one year she won the Ugly Bartender Contest for raising the most money in the region for the National MS Society), owned Family Video in Rangely and Delta for many years, and supported her husband with his business endeavors.
Paulette married Dan Jensen in 1973 and they later divorced. In 1983, she met her soul mate, Lance Comstock, and together they cherished their combined family. Paulette and Lance shared many interests, including traveling, ‘50s music, and gambling at slot tournaments, where she once won $20,000.
Paulette loved spending time with family more than anything. She never hung up from a phone call without saying, “I love you” and if the family member on the other side of the phone forgot, she was known to call them back to hear them say those very special words. Trips to Lake Powell were some of the best times. Holidays were Paulette’s time to shine and her adult kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren looked forward to Christmas at their house every year. Paulette enjoyed watching her grandchildren in their activities and could often be found yelling from the sidelines. Speaking of yelling, she expected a lot out of her favorite team, the Denver Broncos, and wasn’t shy about coaching them through the television screen, sometimes using very colorful words. Paulette was always there to laugh, cry, hug, and encourage every single member of her family and she will be missed more than words can ever express.
In addition to her loving husband, Lance, she is survived by daughters Danette Lurvey (Brian) of Whitewater, Colorado; Suzy Comstock of Olathe, Colorado; Shelley Nolan (Rick) of Grand Junction, Colorado; son Greg Comstock (Tricia) of Montrose, Colorado; 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; her father, Donald Wade of Rangely; twin brother, Paul Wade (Anne) of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; sister, Cheri Smith (Mark) of Rangely, Colorado; and numerous nephews and nieces and in-laws. She was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Wade, and younger brother, Thumper Wade.
A private graveside service was held on Aug. 26, 2023, in Olathe, Colorado. A Celebration of her Life will be held close to her birthday in March. We will post a notification so that others whose lives were touched by Paulette can join us to reminisce and celebrate this wonderful lady.
