Robert Dee Owens died on Friday, July 9, 2010, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was 77.
Dee was born on Oct. 20, 1932, in Greeley County, Kan., the son of Edward J. and Mable (Brewer) Owens. He was raised in Kansas and near Monument, Colo., where he was graduated from high school. Following high school, Dee served in the U.S. Navy for four years.
He married Iris D. Amos on Sept. 27, 1958, in Black Forest, Colo., and over the ensuing years they became the parents of three sons. They lived in various places in Montana, Colorado and Kansas prior to moving to Craig six years ago. Dee helped build the U.S. Air Force Academy in the late 1950s, but most of his life he worked in the agriculture and ranching industries.
Dee enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and being outdoors. He was a member of the Christian Church since 1974.
Dee is survived by his wife Iris of Craig; his sons Raymond and his wife Cyndee of Craig, Rodney of Maybell, and Robert and his wife Stevie of Craig; his grandchildren Caleb, Chayton, Dale, Kacie Bailey, Ashley, Madison and Brett; his sister Wanda Kendrick and her husband Bill of Delta, Colo.; and his brother Donald and his wife Mary Jo Owens of Davenport, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Cassie; and his brothers Ray, Paul and Jim.
Cremation has taken place and graveside services were held on Sunday, July 11, 2010, at the Craig Cemetery with Howard Cowan officiating.
