Obituary: Sally O. Norell

March 23, 1930 ~ Aug. 6, 2020

The pandemic has had a wide ranging impact on all of us. For many of us time has seemed to stand still.

Sally Norell passed away on Aug. 6, 2020, at her home on 22 Road, near Grand Junction, Colorado.

Sally was born on March 23, 1930, in Denver, Colorado, the only child of Walter Oldland and Josephine (Love) Oldland.

Sally and her parents lived on the ranch on Piceance Creek her father and uncle owned until Sally was 6-years-old. In 1936, she and her parents moved to the San Luis Valley where her father took a job on the Baca Grant Ranch to help support the ranch on Piceance Creek during the Depression.

Sally and her family returned to the ranch on Piceance Creek when she was 14. Sally graduated from Meeker High School in 1948 and attended Western State College for two years until 1950 when she met and married the love of her life, George (Bud) Norell.

After their marriage Bud and Sally Norell lived on the YT Ranch near Collbran, Colorado. While at Collbran, Bud and Sally had four children. In 1963, after the federal government took a portion of the ranch for the construction of Vega reservoir, Bud and Sally, their children, and Bud’s parents moved to ranches they purchased south of Silt, Colorado.

In 1972 Bud and Sally again relocated to ranches they purchased on Strawberry Creek near Meeker.

Bud and Sally moved to their place on 22 Road in 1988.

Sally loved Bud, her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. She shared Bud’s love of horses and animals and country life. She took great pride in watching her grandchildren grow and spread their wings.

Sally was preceded in death by Bud and their two daughters, Ann and Kathy. She is survived by her son Andy and his wife Sylvia of Tucson, Arizona; son Kevin and his wife Jan of Grand Junction; grandchildren Sarah (Erin), Caroline, Drew (Sarah Louise), Denton, and Kathi, and a great granddaughter, Zoë.

Due to the pandemic the family anticipates holding a celebration of Sally’s life some time in the future spring.

Donations may be made to HopeWest Hospice.
