Obituary – Sharon Linn (Vanderpool) Samuel

March 8, 1959 ~ July 19, 2024

Sharon Linn (Vanderpool) Samuel lost her battle with thyroid cancer on July 19, 2024 in the care of HopeWest. Her family was by her side throughout her final days.

Born March 8, 1959 in Meeker, CO to Esther (Proctor) and Robert Vanderpool, Sharon graduated from Meeker High School in 1977. She married (John) Kevin Samuel on December 1, 1979 and together they raised 4 daughters.

Sharon was a gifted artist and hard worker, who enjoyed spending time in the garden taking care of her flowers, summer vegetable garden, and fruit trees. Sharon was a phenomenal mother and always showed tremendous love for her husband and daughters. She was a strong advocate for individuals with special needs. The family has many fond memories of spending time in the kitchen with her cooking, baking, canning, and playing board games together. She loved her farm animals and held a special place in her heart for her dog Annie as well as her daughters’ dogs Bronco, Remi, Kona, Peyton and Brandy.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her mother and father-in-law Virginia and Jim Samuel with whom she had a close relationship. Her memory will live on in her daughters Jessica (Alex) Girvin, Emily (Fran), Elizabeth and Alyson Samuel as well as her husband Kevin. She is also survived by her sisters Gala (Terry) Ivie, Aileen (Dallas) Boren, and many other extended family members.

Her family is so very grateful to Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah, and St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado, for their expert care, and for the loving care and vigilance of the staff at Hope West in Grand Junction, Colorado.

A small memorial service will be held July 30, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary & Crematory in Grand Junction, Colorado. A celebration of life will be planned later this year in Meeker, CO. In lieu of flowers, those wishing are asked to donate to Huntsman Cancer Institute (https://give.huntsmancancer.org/page/66449/donate/1)  or Special Olympics CO https://support.specialolympics.org/a/colorado?ms=IDMP_DB&utm_source=donatebtn&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=IDMP_blank  in Sharon’s memory.
