Obituary: Sharon “Sherry” Lynn Klinglesmith

Nov. 17, 1944 ~ March 2, 2022

Sharon Lynn Klinglesmith passed away on March 2, 2022, at Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs following complications from surgery. Sherry was born on Nov. 17, 1944, in Rifle, Colorado, the third child of Carl and Dixie Klinglesmith. The family moved to Meeker in 1953 and Sherry spent her early years attending Meeker schools and making friends with every horse in every pasture in the town and playing for hours with the neighborhood dogs and cats.  Sherry loved animals of all kinds and spent her life taking in strays and adopting pets to share her home.

In 1962 she graduated from Rio Blanco County High School and soon moved to Oxnard, California, with a school friend where she was employed as an accountant by Overhead Door and later General Electric. She met Nick Escamilla, a local boy from Santa Clara and eventually got married. Sherry spent the next few years traveling around the country with Nick and helping to raise her three stepchildren: Nicolas, Renee and Gina. Sherry loved the Spanish language and became quite proficient at it, an asset that helped her throughout her employment years and later in her travels to Latino countries.

After separating from Nick and retiring from GE, she moved to Meeker and established a home on East Flag Creek and thoroughly enjoyed her little rural house amongst numerous wildlife on the property.  Soon after moving in, “Friday,” a stray black and tan hound, moved in with her and over the years the two often were seen running errands together, going to the post office, or meeting the “Lunch Bunch” for good food and good times.

Sherry was preceded in death by her father Carl and mother Dixie, younger brother Lawrence, brother-in-law Bill Miller, niece Dawn DeSantos, and great niece Bethany Garcia. She is survived by her brother Lowell Klinglesmith (LoAnn), and sister Carole Miller, and many nephews and nieces and their families. Other survivors include her niece Fawn Moore and niece Dana Flareau (Les), A.J. Garcia, Zari, Zayden, Zayli, and Sophie, Ladd Klinglesmith (Ronnie), Brody Ann, Trysten, Lenny Klinglesmith (Jackie) and Lori Ann, Lila, Amanda Richards, Skyler, Jaden, Lucas, Corinne DeSantos, Leah Rowser (Garrett), Andrew, Shelby Klinglesmith, Kourtney, Lindsey Klinglesmith, and Landon Klinglesmith.

No services are planned per Sherry’s wishes; however in lieu of flowers any donation to an animal protection facility will be appreciated.

NOTE: Friday, her faithful companion, returned to heaven with Sherry on Monday, March 7, 2022.
