Tony Leroy George was born in Rifle, Colorado, on Dec. 23, 1940, to Alfred and Bertha George. He passed away on March 20, 2023 at the age of 82 in Roseville, California. Tony is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Dick George of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Marlin George of Grand Junction, Colorado.
The George family moved to Meeker in 1955, when Tony’s parents and grandparents ran the Meeker Feed Store. Tony attended Meeker High School from 1955-1958, and graduated from Colorado State University in Fort Collins in 1962 with a BS in chemistry and forestry.
Tony married Dixie Lundberg in 1958 and after he graduated from college they relocated to Roseville, California. Together they had two daughters, Toni Arnold of Gold River, California, and Debbie Jones of Auburn, California.
After graduation from CSU, Tony began his sales career with Chapman Chemical Company. He was later promoted to sales manager and transferred to Memphis, Tennessee. Tony ended his career back in sales, and living in Roseburg, Oregon.
In his retirement, Tony enjoyed traveling in his fifth wheel trailer to visit family and friends. He was an avid golfer, and when he spent time in Auburn, California, he played golf weekly with the SIR (seniors in retirement) group.
Tony is survived by his two daughters, Toni and her husband Mike Arnold, Debbie and her husband Don Jones and his grandchildren, Kylie Jones and Robby Jones. Tony is also survived by his best friend and companion, Frances Allen, her son, Don Hicks, his wife, Stacey, and their children, Garrett, Evan and Joseph.
Tony’s remains will be laid to rest with his parents in the Rifle Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
