William Spurvey

July 15, 1935 ~ May 8, 2023

William Spurvey, 87, passed away quietly on Monday, May 8, 2023, in the loving arms of his dance partner, then wife of 46 years. William had been battling congestive heart failure.

William was born in North Denver to William and Dorothy Spurvey. He was the oldest of four siblings: brother to Jim, Louise and Joe. He graduated from Westminster High School where he played on the high school football team. William loved his sports. After high school he attended Emily Griffith Trade School for two years. He received his HVAC certification and began working at Safeway Distribution Center and worked there for 27 years.

Joining the Local 208 Pipefitters, he worked with various HVAC companies until he landed his dream job at the Denver Federal Center. He started at the Denver Federal Center as a HVAC serviceman and moved up the ladder to customer service specialist. He retired from the Fed Center after 22 years in 2012.

In the early 1970s William decided that he needed to take some dancing lessons. He got involved in classes at Fred Astaire Dance Studio. There he met his instructor, Linda Maxwell, aka Miss Max. The thing he had loved most was dancing, and boy, can he dance!

In April of 1977, while out looking for a dance partner he ran into and reconnected with Max at a dance club. That was the beginning of their story.

William also loved to bowl, surprising himself with a perfect 300 game. Bowling and dancing made him happy.

William and Linda (Max), moved into their end home in Meeker six short years ago. William was involved in the Lions Club until Covid. It was there that he made friends with some of the wonderful people of Meeker. In the winter months he was able to join the group of walkers at the Meeker High School indoor track. There again he made more new friends.

If you happened to have run into William and had a minute to visit, there would be great stories shared.

William loved his new home here in Meeker doing yard work and putting around the garage with his tools and such. This gave him much happiness. When he could not do this anymore, he would then supervise his wife as to how and what to do.

William is leaving behind his love, Linda “Max” Spurvey; his brother Joe (Pat) Spurvey and nephew, nieces and nephews from his departed brother Jim and sister Louise; three grown daughters, Nique (Andy) Jessen of Littleton; Danne (Joe) Dikeman of Littleton, Diana (Mike) Jones of Meeker; six amazing grandchildren, Marcus (Kendall) Jessen and Alec Jessen, Michael Wright, Joe Dikeman, Paige and Michaela Jones and one great granddaughter Paisley Jo.

William is also leaving behind his many friends and neighbors that he loved. Always happy and smiling with a good story to tell. Everyone that I have spoken to since his passing has mentioned that he was a man of kindness, and he was kind.

He will be truly missed by all!

There will be no formal service held. Please share the date, July 15 at 2 p.m., for a blowout 88th birthday bash.

Donations can be made to HopeWest, Meeker Home Health, VFW and or Meeker Streaker.
