The Rangely Panther wrestling team had a successful and eventful weekend, starting with dual matches in Soroco on Friday and culminating in the Soroco Invitational Tournament on Saturday.
Friday against West Grand the Panthers narrowly lost the first dual with a score of 42-36. Victories for the Panthers came from Cameron Preciado, Aydan Christian, Ronny Anderson, Davon Lucero, Joseph Nickson and Izaiah Moody.
In the second dual against South Routt County (Soroco), the Panthers demonstrated their strength with quick pins by Cameron Preciado, Aydan Christian, and Wyatt Stevens. Additional wins by pins were secured by Davon Lucero, Landon Carlson, and Izaiah Moody. Ronny Anderson and Jaxon Torsell won by forfeit, contributing to a decisive 48-18 win over Soroco.
On Sunday, every Rangely wrestler reached the podium, earning a medal. Four Panther champions were crowned: Cameron Preciado, Aydan Christian, Izaiah Moody and Jaxon Torsell.
Wyatt Stevens secured second place, while Ronny Anderson and Landon Carlson finished third. Davon Lucero and Joseph Nickson each took fourth place.
The Panthers achieved an impressive second place in the tournament, missing first place by just four points. This was particularly noteworthy given the team was not at full strength due to injuries and eligibility issues.
The coaches expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance and emphasized the need for continued improvement. Looking ahead, the Panthers are set to travel to Kremmling for duals on Friday and another tournament on Saturday.
