Panther volleyball downs DeBeque 3-0, loses 1-3 to Meeker

RANGELY | In a week of highs and lows, the Rangely High School varsity volleyball team showcased their resilience and determination on the court, leaving their mark in the world of high school sports.

On Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2023, the Rangely Panthers delivered an outstanding performance, securing a resounding 3-0 victory over De Beque High School. The scoreboard told the story: Set 1 ended 25-22, Set 2 at 25-16, and Set 3 concluded with a score of 25-17. Annika Cantrell led the charge with an impressive 12 kills, closely followed by Emmeree Wagner with 10 and Addison Scott with eight. The serving prowess of Karlee Halcomb and Addison Scott earned them 10 service points each, with Halcomb even serving two aces. Cantrell and Aubrianna Tapia provided a strong defensive presence with two blocks each. Wagner displayed her tenacity with 13 digs, while Kaitlyn Cox orchestrated the team’s plays with 23 assists.

However, the journey had its challenges. On Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, the Rangely Panthers faced off against Meeker High School in a nail-biting contest. Despite their best efforts, they ultimately fell 1-3. The sets were hard-fought, with Set 1 ending 25-23, Set 2 at 23-25, Set 3 at 20-25, and Set 4 at 10-25. The match featured a remarkable display of skill, including one of the longest rallies witnessed by both teams. Cantrell remained a standout player, amassing 14 kills, while Cox demonstrated her serving prowess with 15 service points. Lexi LeBleu, Wagner and Tapia emerged as defensive stalwarts, each contributing four blocks. Wagner continued her exceptional performance with 22 digs, closely followed by Emma Smith with 13. Cox further solidified her role with 25 assists in the match.

As the dust settles, the Panther’s overall record stands at 7-5, with a league record of 4-2. The team is gearing up for their next challenge as they prepare to face Grand Valley on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Rangely.  The Panthers’ journey continues, filled with determination and the drive to overcome obstacles, making them a force to be reckoned with in the world of high school volleyball.
