Panther wrestlers compete in several duals

RANGELY | Last week, the Rangely Panther wrestlers competed in several duals.

The Panthers started their weekend of duals on Thursday in Hayden where they competed against the Hayden Tigers and the Rifle Bears. The Panthers were able to defeat the Bears in a very close dual but were overwhelmed by the extremely tough Tigers.

On Saturday, the Panthers competed at the Great 8 Dual Tournament in Grand Valley. Right off the bat, the Panthers narrowly lost to the Glenwood Springs Demons, but were able to bounce back in their next dual and soundly beat the North Park Wildcats.

In the third dual of the day, the Panthers once again faced the Hayden Tigers. Although the Panthers weren’t able to find a way to win the dual, several Panthers were able to win key regional matches.

After the third dual, the Panthers were matched against the Soroco Rams, followed by the Eagle Valley Devils. The Panthers finished the day strong and were able to defeat both teams and ultimately placed 5th in the tournament.

Overall, the Panthers finished the week 4-3 in their duals over the weekend.

On Thursday, February 3rd, the Panthers host their lone home dual of the season against the Coal Ridge Titans. Come support your Rangely Panthers at the Rangely Jr./Sr. High School at 6:00 PM.

“These young men have been working very hard,” says head coach JC Chumacero. “If you can, please come out and support them and their families.”

After Thursday’s dual, the Panthers will head to Meeker on Saturday to compete in the final event of the season before regionals, which will be held in Buena Vista this year.
