RANGELY | The lady Panthers were at home last weekend for the Rangely Tournament. “A lot of good things happened, and a lot of learning from a young group of athletes,” said head coach Jimmie Mergelman. “On Friday, we played Dove Creek, a very good 1A team. We didn’t come out well and just couldn’t get into a rhythm. Senior Mary Scoggins did a great job of leading the way and keeping her composure. We fell to the Bulldogs 46-18.”
Saturday the lady Panthers played Nucla “…with much confidence and spunk,” Mergelman said, adding, “We started off well, and then just kept getting better. We held them to 0 in the second quarter while we put up 12.”
The Panthers won 43-30 against Nucla. Ryann led the scoring with 11, followed by Scoggins with eight, Wren seven, Ducey and Cantrell with six each, Dembowski rounded it out with five. “[It was a] great game with everyone contributing,” Mergelman said.
The Panthers are off until Jan. 7 when they will pick up with league play against Vail Christian.
