RANGELY — Last weekend the Panthers boys basketball team split in league play by losing to Plateau Valley 62-60 and beating North Park Saturday 78-57.
The Panthers ran into a very hot team which shot the lights out and everything went in. Plateau Valley got off to a hot start by scoring the first nine points in the game. Rangely finally got some points on the board and when it seemed they would get close, Plateau Valley would hit some big buckets and keep the lead.
The Panthers never gave up and finally went on a run late in the fourth quarter and had a six point lead when the referee gave a technical foul to Rangely and Plateau Valley took advantage of that with a five point turnaround, gaining momentum and didn’t lose it to came out with the victory.
Patrick Phelan led the Panthers with 22 points and Tim Willis added 13 points. Also scoring for Rangely was Keenan Harvey with eight points and five rebounds. Michael Morton finished with six points and five rebounds. Kanden Brady had five points, Mark Hinaman four and Adam Dahl two.
Saturday night was a different story as the Panthers started out fast and had a 22- 7 first quarter lead. Rangely looked a lot better on the defensive side of the ball and caused a lot of turnovers the whole game. As a matter of fact, Rangely came away with 16 steals, which was one of the main factors in the game.
Rangely came out of this game with better balance in the scoring. Leading the Panthers again was Phelan with 20 points and he dished the ball off very well and ended up with six assists. Willis and Lewis Murray came away with 14 points each and Morton scored 10 points.
Also scoring for the Panthers was Brady with eight points, Dahl and Kindal Cushman each had four points and Hinaman and James Herrera each added two points.
With this victory Rangely goes into the game tomorrow against West Grand with some momentum for the remainder of the
season.
