RANGELY I Rangely traveled to Grand Junction to take on the Caprock Academy Eagles on Friday, Feb. 18. The Eagles once again proved they are a formidable 1A team and look to make it deep into the playoffs by defeating the Panthers 43-72. Marstan Wagner led the Panthers with 10 points followed by Kevin Wren with nine points.
The Panthers entered the 2A District 5 tournament with the #5 seed and traveled to the #4 seed Vail Christian Saints on Tuesday, Feb. 22. The Panthers came out firing in the first half, but the Saints full court pressure in the second half and Quinn Downey’s eight three pointers proved to be too much as the Saints defeated the Panthers 55-82. Keihlin Myers and Kenyon Cochrane led all scorers with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Marstan Wagner also chipped in 11 points.
“I’m very proud of this group and how hard they have worked and competed. We’ll miss our seniors, Timothy Scoggins, Keihlin Myers, and Ashton Bennett and I’m grateful for their efforts over the last four years,” stated coach Kyle Boydstun. Vail Christian’s victory will advance them to the semifinal round of the district tournament at De Beque on Friday where they will take on Meeker.
