RANGELY I Starting out the 2021 season Rangely was hoping for a different outcome. After losing in the playoffs last year to Dove Creek, the team faced them again to start the season with a similar result. Dove Creek won handily 54-6, taking advantage of three Panther turnovers.
Rangely started out with a couple of long drives that didn’t result in points, while Dove Creek scored eight in the first and 16 in the second quarter to take a 24-6 lead into the half.
“We played a decent first half against a really good football team, but we turned the ball over and struggled to create any opportunities for ourselves. It’s definitely a game we need to put behind us, and come back and get better if we want to accomplish our goals for the season,” said head coach Ryan Wilkie. “We really struggled to deal with their speed and physicality, and they beat us every way possible. Obviously this one hurts, but it’s game one and we expect to compete and reach our potential. There is a lot of football left to play.”
Rangely will travel to Caliche this Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
