On Feb. 8 the Rangely Panthers traveled to Vail to take on the Vail Mountain Gore Rangers. Vail Mountain entered the contest second in the league rankings and Rangely sat in eighth place. The contest was a very large defensive and physical battle right from the start. The Panthers were unable to get their offense going in the first quarter and trailed 16-6 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the defensive battle continued with both teams only scoring seven points. At halftime the scoreboard would be 23-13. After halftime the Rangers erupted for 21 points in the third quarter and the Panthers were unable to keep up. In the end the Panthers fell 58-31. Leading the way for the Panthers was Lincoln Harris who scored nine points and Tristan Scott who added five points and a season-high nine rebounds.
Two days later on Feb. 10 the Panthers traveled to Grand Junction to take on the Caprock Academy Eagles. This was the second match of the year between the two with Rangely winning the first game 45-40. Using their full-court press the Panthers forced many Caprock turnovers in the first half and they took command of the game right from tip-off. After the first quarter, the Panthers were up 16-5. The Panthers continued to command the game in the first quarter and also were aided by four first-half threes to take the lead into halftime 30-15. In the third quarter the Panthers struggled to keep the Eagles off of the free-throw line after they had reached the bonus. Caprock was aided by 13 free throws in the period, making nine, and closed the gap to seven points to start the fourth period. Using pressure defense of their own the Eagles were able to get within two points at 43-41 with about four minutes left. However, that would be as close as they got as the Panthers pulled off the victory 51-43. The Panthers led a very balanced scoring effort in the victory with Maros Quintana scoring 14, Lincoln Harris and Tristan Scott each scoring 11, and Clay Allred adding nine.
