On Jan. 26 the Rangely Panthers had an away game against the Hayden Tigers. The teams were fairly matched in the first quarter and the Tigers took an early lead after the first quarter 19-13. The Tigers used pressure defense all night to force many Panther turnovers. At halftime the Tigers held a 35-22 lead. The Panthers continued to battle all night and would get as close as 11 points early in the fourth quarter but the Tigers proved to be too much to handle. The Tigers ended up hitting eight three-pointers in the game and had one of their better shooting nights of the season. The final score read 69-49 in favor of the Tigers. Leading the way for the Panthers was Marcos Quintana who scored 12 points and Clay Allred who added 11 points.
The following day the Panthers hosted the West Grand Mustangs out of Kremmling, Colorado. The Panthers came out in a full-court press that West Grand was unable to handle. The first quarter was the best defensive quarter the Panthers have had all season as they ended the first quarter not allowing the Mustangs to score and leading 15-0.
The game was much of the same the rest of the way with the Panthers continuing to wreak havoc on defense. In total, the Panthers collected 25 steals and forced seven other turnovers. The final score read 57-15. Leading the way for the Panthers was Marcos Quintana who had his best overall performance collecting 15 points, nine rebounds, five steals and four blocks. Lincoln Harris added 12 points and five rebounds and Clay Allred added nine points, six steals and four assists. The Panthers have two away games next week against Plateau Valley on Tuesday and Debeque on Saturday.
