RANGELY | The lady Panthers had an exciting weekend of basketball. Last Thursday they opened up with Meeker for what would be one of the most exciting games of the year.
“I thought we played well we just fell short at the end, losing 67-65,” said head coach Jimmie Mergelman.
“Annika Cantrell did a great job controlling the board and scoring around the basket. She finished with 15 points and 21 rebounds. Ducey, Wren and Halcomb finished with 10 each, followed by Scoggins with nine, Dembowski with seven and Mergelman with four.”
On Friday, Rangely hosted Telluride, which Mergelman said was a great game for a lot of kids to get a lot of playing time. The Panthers won with a score of 55-10. All 14 girls played and scored.
Last Saturday the Panthers hosted the Plateau Valley Cowboys for a league matchup.
“This was a physical game, and we struggled scoring in the first half. Going into halftime we were tied 12-12. We came out of the half scoring seven points unanswered and got on a roll,” Mergelman said. The lady Panthers finished the game 43-36. Scoggins led scoring with 15, followed by Mergelman with 13, Halcomb with six, Wren five and Ducey with four. Wren led in rebounding with 11, followed by Scoggins with six. Ducey continues to lead in steals, finishing the game with six.
This week the lady Panthers host the Cedaredge Bruins on Saturday for another league matchup.
