RANGELY | The Rangely Panthers boys’ basketball team had a busy weekend as they lost a thriller in West Grand 53-54 on Thursday, played well but lost 86-55 to an undefeated De Beque squad, and defeated Caprock Academy at home 46-36.
“The boys are playing and executing well. We’re hoping we can continue this effort into district play,” said head coach Kyle Boydstun. Micah Zenner led the Panthers in scoring with 39 points over the three games, followed by Marshall Webber with 31 points.
On Monday, Feb. 18 Rangely traveled to Vail Mountain for the No. 8 and 9 seed district pigtail game. The Panthers avenged their earlier loss to the Gore Rangers earning a 58-47 victory and a berth into the district quarterfinals.
“The boys played good team defense, executed much better on offense, and were much more patient against their press,” said Boydstun. Micah Zenner again led the scoring effort with 25 points followed by Marshall Webber with 12.
Vail Christian beat Rangely Tuesday in the quarterfinal round 78-40.
