RANGELY | The Panthers opened up the weekend with a trip to Grand Junction on Friday to face the Caprock Academy Eagles in a league match-up. The boys wasted little time in building a 36-8 halftime lead and went on to win the match-up 62-24. All the athletes got to see playing time and 10 players contributed to the scoring with Kobe Broome leading the way with 14 points and five assists, along with Patrick Scoggins pulling down 11 rebounds and five assists, and Doug Denison with two blocks and seven rebounds.
Saturday the Green Machine hosted the West Grand Mustangs in another league match-up. This game started off a little rough with the Mustangs jumping out to a 7–0 lead before the boys took charge and rained in six three pointers in the first quarter to take a 20 to 12 lead. The boys went on to win the game 72 to 31 with the Mustangs only mustering eight combined points in the second and third quarters while the Panthers had 12 three pointers in the game. The boys were led in scoring by Broome and Scoggins who each contributed 18 points while Devin Ramirez contributed 12 points. Scoggins and Denison had nine and seven rebounds respectively, while freshman Gabe Polley came off the bench to pull down five boards.
The Panthers led the league with a 10 and 1 record and will be in Paonia this Friday night to close out the regular season. Playoff games begin next week so come out and cheer and support your Panthers.
