RANGELY | The Rangely High School track and field teams capped off a successful season with strong showings at the CHSAA Class 2A state championships. The girls’ team placed fifth overall with 49 points, while the boys’ team finished ninth with 30 points, showing depth across multiple events.
Girls Highlights — 5th Place
Sophomore Taya Wren led the Lady Panthers with a standout weekend in the distance events. She won the 3,200 meters in 11 minutes, 21.43 seconds, placed second in the 1,600 (5:16.35), and took fourth in the 800 (2:24.12), accounting for 24 points.
Senior Ashlynn Ducey capped her high school career with a strong showing, placing third in the 100-meter hurdles (16.14), fourth in the 400 meters (59.17), and helping the 4×400-meter relay team finish third (4:11.94). She was joined in the relay by Miah Wren, Taya Wren and Tylee Fielder.
In the field events, Miah Wren tied for third in the pole vault, clearing 9 feet, 4 inches. She also competed in the 300-meter hurdles (10th place), and the 4×100 and 4×200 relays.
Junior Tylee Fielder played a key role in the 4×400 and 4×200 relays. The 4×200 team — which also included Rachel Elder, Natalie Bollinger and Kira Jo Benson — placed 16th in prelims.
Senior Taylor Fouch added a point with a ninth-place finish in the shot put (32-9.75), while junior Aubrianna Tapia finished 13th in the same event. Ducey also placed 11th in the long jump.
Relay teammates Elder, Bollinger and Fielder rounded out the girls’ effort with solid performances in the sprint events.
“These girls stepped up on the biggest stage and competed with so much heart,” head coach Beth Scoggins said. “From our seniors leaving their mark to our younger athletes gaining valuable experience, this group showed what Rangely pride is all about.”
Boys Highlights — 9th Place
The Rangely boys also earned a top-10 finish, powered by strong performances from both seniors and underclassmen.
James Talbot was one of the weekend’s top performers, placing third in the 1,600 meters (4:24.71) and fourth in the 800 (1:59.52). He also anchored the 4×800-meter relay to a ninth-place finish (8:33.95) alongside Clay Allred, Chance Allred and Joseph Valdez.
Senior Jordan Irwin had a breakout meet, scoring in three events: fourth in the triple jump (42-8.75), sixth in the long jump (20-1) and fourth in the pole vault (13-3).
Sophomore Kacey Allred tied for 11th in the pole vault (11-9). Junior Logan Peterson finished 14th in the long jump (19-2.5) and ran on the 4×400-meter relay team with Clay Allred, Chance Allred and Valdez, which finished 17th in prelims (3:47.46).
In the discus, senior Chase Cochrane recorded a throw of 130-3, placing 11th overall.
“Every one of these boys showed up with grit and heart,” Scoggins said. “To finish ninth in the state with this group is a testament to their work ethic and the bond they share as teammates.”
With both teams finishing in the top 10 statewide, Rangely continues to build a tradition of excellence in track and field. The Panthers return a number of talented underclassmen and will aim even higher in 2026.
