Panthers master challenging Aspen course

Special to the HT

RANGELY |  The Rangely Panthers cross country team put on an impressive display of grit and endurance at the Chris Severy Invitational in Aspen on Saturday, October 4, 2025. Known for its demanding course featuring rolling hills, uneven terrain, and unpredictable weather, the meet proved to be an excellent test of the Panthers’ late-season fitness.

The Rangely varsity boys’ team ran a strong race, earning an outstanding 2nd place finish overall. The team placed three runners in the top 15:

Joseph Valdez led the Panthers, finishing 4th overall with a time of 20:41.6.

Kyler Fouts followed close behind, taking 6th place in 20:51.2.

Tavan Morgan secured a top-15 spot, placing 11th with a time of 21:16.5.

Other notable performances included: Antonio Prieto finishing 20th in 24:03.2, Titus Friedrich clocking 24:36.8, Gage Nielsen at 25:18.6, and Alec Gillard finishing in 27:22.9.

The high school girls were the third race of the day and finished a solid 4th place overall in the team standings.

Taya Wren had a fantastic race, leading the team with a 2nd place overall finish and a time of 22:09.1.

Faith Prieto was the second Rangely girl to cross the line in 29:46.

Working together, KJ Benson finished in 30:32 and Kylee Caldwell in 30:35.

Courtney Casto and Addi Thayn finished their race in 35:22 and 35:34, respectively.

“We are getting close to the end of the season,” said Coach Scoggins. “We still have work to do, but we are improving and are rising up to the challenge of each course. I am super proud of how well everyone is progressing and getting better at each meet.”

The Panthers will continue their season on Friday, Oct. 10, at the Warrior Lincoln Park Classic “Mountain State Challenge.” This meet is critical as the course will also host the regional meet in a couple of weeks, giving the Panthers a crucial opportunity to familiarize themselves with the terrain and competition.
