RANGELY I The Panther wrestling team traveled to Paonia last Saturday to compete in the Screamin’ Eagle wrestling tournament, which is a preview of the very tough upcoming regional tournament.
“We have a lot of fundamental work to do between now and regionals,” head coach Derek Stolworthy stated. “Staying healthy is a concern but each individual’s commitment to their season goals needs to be re-established.”
The Panthers only placed two in the top four spots: Patrick Brown placed second at heavyweight and Jake Smith placed third at 170 pounds.
Smith wrestled a very solid tournament, only losing to last year’s state champion from Norwood.
Lucas Heinle placed fifth at 138 and Ethan Allred placed sixth at the same weight. Colton Coombs placed sixth by losing a coin toss. Wrestling but not placing were Heath and Chance Peters.
This week the Panthers will compete in Grand Junction in a tournament Saturday.
